As a result of additional funding, Career Path Services has an immediate opening for an experienced digital literacy instructor to provide adult education services and basic employment services at WorkSource Spokane, an American Job Center!

As an Employment Practitioner under the Digital Literacy Instructor track, every day is a chance to create a supportive, empowering learning environment for adult learners and deliver quality content area instruction in computer skills on all levels. Using an Integrated Service Delivery, this position will also deliver basic employment services through the technology center and career coaching, according to requirements of the funding contract. The focus of this position will be on basic career services with 50% of the time spent in a computer lab classroom setting. Classes provide adult-learners with the skills to apply new computer skills accurately and appropriately in a variety of places, including but not limited to home, community, and workplace settings.  
 
The position is project-based with the potential for contract renewal.  The project dates run from January 2, 2018 until June 30, 2018. The stability of this position depends directly upon individual and team performance, goal attainment, and funding.
 
A successful Practitioner will be energetic and extremely patient when working with self-conscious learners, experienced in working with learners of limited educational backgrounds and study habits, performance driven, entrepreneurial, know how to take the broad elements of a program model and customize to the needs of the candidate. Our practitioners work in a collaborative relationship with other practitioners and leadership to meet goals of the program and fund source. In this role you will need an eye for detail, flexibility and the ability to work at the pace of business.

As a Digital Literacy Instructor, a day might include the following: 

  • Create engaging and practical lesson plans for working adults that include authentic materials, culture, and technology and align with industry best practices.
  • Teach functional Basic Computer skills to adult learners of diverse educational backgrounds. 
  • Train and lead students enrolled in internship programs.
  • Evaluate student needs and progress by monitoring student work, providing opportunities for practice, and ensuring students have acquired the target level skill. 
  • Conduct participant outreach and recruitment into agency-designed and/or approved digital literacy workshops.
  • Create and maintain a monthly calendar of Digital Literacy and Career Coaching workshops/sessions offered on a weekly basis.
  • Conduct job readiness and career coaching orientation, conduct additional career exploration, work-skill, and employment barrier assessments and update participant service plan as needed.  
  • Help Employment Practitioners and participants in progressing through their service plan using funded and unfunded activities aimed at preparing participants for unsubsidized employment.
  • Assist with and teach problem solving and conflict resolution skills to participants as needed.
  • Input data on the days' registrations/enrollments, status changes, exits/terminations and post exit MIS in the division’s operating system.
  • Gather data, analyze, and report on program success, including adjusting goals and strategies as appropriate.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Requires advanced level use of: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; LinkedIn, and other business-related networking applications, as appropriate.
  • Requires flexibility in working some evening and/or weekend hours.
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and cultural competency.
  • Daily availability of personal vehicle or alternate method of transportation sufficient to meet the daily transportation requirements of the position is a condition of employment. Copies of driver’s license and auto liability insurance coverage is required for personnel file at time of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Demonstrated experience as an energetic and effective facilitator, student outreach, and/or in adult continuing education.
  • Flexible teaching style and ability to successfully execute a lesson plan that accommodates a variety of learning styles so as to ensure that all students progress at the same pace.
Preferred
  • Mastery of Basic Computer Literacy, Windows, Keyboarding, Microsoft Office Suite, and the Internet.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in:  Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Work, Communication, Workforce Development, Psychology, or Sociology.  Appropriate work experience may be substituted for the education requirement. 
  • Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP).
  • Demonstrated success in a performance based system and one-year of experience working with employers, job placement, job development, sales, workforce development, job coaching, employment and training.
  • Demonstrated success working with people from a variety of backgrounds which may include disabilities, criminal history, homeless, family violence, poverty etc.
  • Experience in public speaking and presentations to a diverse community.
