Are you ready to promote food benefit awareness and create outreach resources to help those in your community? As an SNAP Outreach Specialist, that's just what you'll do.

As a SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) Basic Food Outreach Specialist (ORS), every day is a chance to connect with local community based and professional organizations to build awareness of SNAP food benefit eligibility criteria and how to apply, as well as resources offered at the Spokane Resource Center and Spokane WorkSource Campus. The SNAP Outreach Specialist (ORS) will be responsible for outreach and networking activities within and for the benefit of the Spokane WorkSource Campus and the Spokane Resource Center (SRC), which includes contributing ideas and leads for identifying new outreach sources and providing the necessary follow up. The stability of this position depends directly upon continued funding, individual employee and team performance, and goal attainment.

ABOUT THE JOB

The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Create effective marketing materials, presentations and/or workshops that will increase awareness of the SNAP basic food assistance program.
  • Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns
  • Research target audiences and outreach opportunities as it relates to potential SNAP recipients
  • Collaborate with the Worksource Campus and SRC partners to learn and stay current on their programs, workshops, activities, and resources
  • Participate in presentations, resource/job fairs, hiring events to increase knowledge of SNAP food benefits
  • Assist potential SNAP recipients with submitting and/or recertifying basic food benefit applications
  • Collect data for SNAP quarterly reports and determine new process improvement opportunities

EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in workforce development or customer service.
  • Basic level use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, LinkedIn.
  • One year of experience developing marketing tools and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external organizations in a way that conveys a positive, helpful image.
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and cultural competency.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Work, Communication, Personnel Management, Sociology, Guidance/Counseling, Public Administration, Education, Workforce Development, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Services’ related field.
  • Two plus years of marketing experience.
  • Bilingual: able to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish
  • Demonstrated success working with people from a variety of backgrounds which may include disabilities, criminal history, homeless, family violence, poverty etc.
