Do you have lived experience or experience working with populations impacted by poverty and/or trauma, or incarceration? Do you believe connecting people to available social and human services can make a difference in their lives? If so, this position may be for you!
A collaborator. An inspirational leader. Someone who is driven to do heart-work and provide performance excellence, with integrity. This position will be dedicated to helping others by directing low-level crime defendants to available social and human services through the Spokane Resource Center. This position is a 3-month, project based role that will work at the Spokane County Jail Intake & Release Center to help reduce the jail population thereby decreasing the possibility of COVID-19 facility outbreaks.

ABOUT THE JOB
- Hours: Monday-Friday, 3:20pm - 11:20pm
- Location: Spokane County Jail Intake & Release Center
- Must have a Peer Navigator Certification and/or Community Health Worker Certification to perform the work, and receive clearance from the Spokane County Detention Center.
The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Warmly engage individuals booked at the Intake & Release Center.
- Conduct a brief assessment to determine immediate needs upon release, such as transportation and/or housing.
- Provide relevant referrals and services based upon the individual’s needs.
- Provide hygiene kits and other materials when appropriate.
- Provide peer support to inmates/defendants, assisting them to navigate the social service systems.
- Work as part of a team alongside other center staff.
- Protect client confidentiality.
- Stay current on area social service programs, workshops, and activities, and refers customers to other agencies as appropriate.
- Track engagement numbers at the Intake & Release Center.
- Conduct timely, accurate and complete data input for tracking components, status changes, referrals and outcomes.
- Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.

- Peer Navigator Certification or Community Health Worker Certification.

EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
- A High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to work Monday-Friday, 3:20pm-11:20pm
- Peer Navigator Certification and/or Community Health Worker Certification
- Ability to receive clearance from Spokane County Detention Services.
- Basic level use of: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, LinkedIn, and other business-related networking applications, as appropriate.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external organizations in a way that conveys a positive, helpful image.
- Lived experience or experience working with populations impacted by poverty and/or trauma, or incarceration.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong service mindset, superior communication skills, public speaking, process driven, and have a keen attention to detail.
- Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast-paced environment and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and cultural competency.
- Demonstrated experience in Peer Navigator/Peer Support Specialist work
- A Bachelor’s Degree in: Business Administration, Human Resources, Social Work, Communication, Personnel Management, Sociology, Guidance/Counseling, Public Administration, Education, Workforce Development, Psychology, Sociology, or Social Services’ related field.
- Bilingual: able to read, write, and speak Spanish and English proficiently.
- Demonstrated success working with people from a variety of backgrounds which may include disabilities, criminal history, homeless, family violence, poverty etc.
